In Luke 4:18, Jesus defines his target audience as the bankrupt, brokenhearted, bound, blind and bruised. We choose the same audience with the understanding that while only some find themselves in those conditions physically, we all prior to coming to Christ are in that audience spiritually.
The Bankrupt – trying to satisfy life’s most critical need with our own morality until we realize only Christ can supply the right standing with God we lack.
The Brokenhearted – striving to find happiness in temporary experiences and after constant disappointment finally discovering all we ever wanted was Jesus.
The Bound- dying by the hands of a lifestyle or habit that holds us captive until Christ sets us free.
The Blind – relying solely on our senses to define reality and overlooking Christ, the Light of the world, Who puts everything else in perspective.
The Bruised – denying the fact that we are wounded in ways only Christ can heal but still looking for relief elsewhere in the world.
